How the day goes
The afternoon is for the elders and their rites. The evening is for everyone: the rings, lots of photographs and dinner on the lawn.
The rites, one by one
- 4:00 PM
Barichha
Medha’s family formally accepts Akshay, with blessings and shagun, in front of the elders of both families.
Medha’s family comes to Akshay with blessings, sweets and shagun. With the elders looking on, the match is sealed, and from that moment the two families belong to each other.
- 5:00 PM
Godh Bharai
Medha’s lap is filled with fruit, sweets and gifts as we welcome her into our family.
The women of our family fill Medha’s lap with fruit, dry fruit, sweets and gifts, wishing her a life that is always full. It is our way of telling her she is one of us now.
- 7:00 PM
Ring Ceremony
Akshay and Medha exchange rings, and then we all sit down to dinner with family and friends.
The sagai. The rings are exchanged in front of everyone, and the evening carries on over dinner on the lawn.
What to wear
No colour theme today. Dress up for a festive evening outdoors.
