Haldi, Mehndi and Sangeet
A whole day at Amoura Farms, from the morning rites to a night of music.
Friday 4 December 2026
How the day goes
Our longest and most colourful day. Family rites in the morning, haldi at eleven followed by lunch, mehndi through the afternoon and the sangeet once it gets dark. Three dress codes, one each for the haldi, the mehndi and the sangeet.
The rites, one by one
- 8:30 AM
Pahnawan
An early morning rite in which the groom is dressed and adorned for the days ahead.
A small family rite, held early, before the day’s celebrations begin.
- 9:00 AM
Maay Madhra
The mother’s side of the family arrives with blessings and gifts for the household.
The maternal family comes bearing gifts and blessings, and is welcomed and honoured in return.
- 11:00 AM
Haldi
Both families apply turmeric to the bride and groom, for a happy glow and good luck. Lunch follows.
Everyone who loves Akshay and Medha gets to apply the paste of turmeric, sandalwood and oil. It is joyful and very messy, so wear yellow and nothing precious. Lunch is served on the lawn afterwards.
- 4:00 PM
Mehndi
Henna for the bride, and for everyone who would like to sit with her.
The mehndi artists are there for the bride and for every guest who would like henna. Come in green, sit with us for a while and let it dry. They say the darker the colour, the deeper the love.
- 7:00 PM
Sangeet
An evening of songs and dancing, with both families on the floor.
The two families perform for each other, and then everyone dances. Sequins are very welcome, and the music goes on till half past ten.
What to wear
Yellow for the haldi, green for the mehndi and lots of sparkle for the sangeet. Many guests bring a change of clothes.
- Haldi Shades of Yellow
- Mehndi Shades of Green
- Sangeet Bling and Glam
